Fertilisation

If IVF is used the sample is prepared in the laboratory to obtain the best sperm, using this concentrated sample the eggs are inseminated following egg recovery.  If Intra Cyto-plasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is used a single sperm will be injected into each suitable egg available.

The next day the eggs are checked for signs of normal fertilisation and these fertilised eggs (embryos) are incubated for at least a further 24 hours before transfer.

Occasionally a cycle may result in none of the eggs fertilising, should this happen to you we would undertake a review of the cycle and then offer you an appointment to meet with the medical staff as soon as possible.
