Monitoring

During stimulation, careful monitoring is necessary to assess the response of the ovaries. This is done by ultrasound scans to count and measure the follicles to decide the correct timing of egg recovery.  Approximately five percent of all stimulated cycles started within the Unit are cancelled before egg recovery due to the lack of ovarian response to the drugs.

For further information on Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome see (PI-AR-0013)

Egg recovery is planned when three or more follicles measure 18mm in diameter.  This is when we hope to get mature eggs.
