The Aberdeen Fertility Centre is aware of the challenges faced by people with fertility issues. We have a counsellor based within the Centre who is available to all those undergoing investigations, treatment and post treatment. This service is free of charge.
There are different types of counselling depending on your individual needs. Therapeutic counselling is designed to offer support to individuals and couples throughout any part of their treatment process. It is an opportunity to talk through how you are feeling, explore the emotional and psychological impact of infertility/fertility treatment and increase coping strategies and resilience, in a safe and confidential setting. Patients can self-refer or be referred by their treatment clinician at the fertility centre.
All egg, embryo, sperm donors and surrogates are invited to a counselling session to ensure they have an opportunity to consider all aspects of the treatment and any potential implications and consequences. This is an important part of the process and an opportunity to explore a wide range of related issues such as the rights and needs of any child conceived by donation/surrogacy.
This session will enable you to think about the issues you may want to explore further to help you in your own decision making process. The topics highlighted in the patient information e.g. Sperm Donor Information, Egg Donation Programme Information can be discussed within the session. While the detail of the discussion during this session is confidential, a form is completed and signed, by the counsellor indicating that the session has taken place and that all relevant implications have been discussed which is then forwarded on to the Donor Coordinator.
We are aware that many patients travel a considerable distance to the Centre and therefore we provide the opportunity for patients to access a Counsellor in Aberdeen and also in Raigmore.
